A glimpse into the Future


About 2 months have passed since the post jam release, and we are well in the development of making Dome Romantik into a full game. We got a lot of designing, drawing and programming done, and are so happy that over 20.000 people already played our little game. I want to share some bits with you, where Dome Romantik is headed and what you can expect from the full version. Please keep in mind any of this might change, especially after getting feedback from playtesters.

Domes and Game Modes

There are 5 different domes planned. Each one has a different main weapon (as you can see here), which feels very different to play with. The visuals are completely different between the domes.

Two game modes are already planned. The "Core" mode is similar to the mode you might have played already, but a lot longer with a bigger map and some nice specials (see below). Migration on the other hand will see you travelling from world to world, leaving each one when the right time has come.

Gadgets

You won't prospect for resources only, but also for artifacts with which you can install gadgets. They usually have a very strong impact to your dome and can even be game changers.


Here you can see a repellent that slows down the next wave, and the very exciting blast mining, that lets you clear out areas much faster. As you can see, some gadgets will be installed in a cellar below the dome. Each gadget also comes with its own upgrades, on which you carefully pick your preferences.

Other gadgets include an additional, automatic stun laser, a lift that brings you home quicker or a shield that will tank some damage and regenerate.

To manage this ton of upgrades, a new tech tree is used:

This is pretty rough still, and will look much better when it gets closer to release. For now development speed is most important, so i'm glad that this tree gets automatically generated just through the upgrade definitions.

What else?

Of course we are also working on new worlds an monsters, but i'll show more of that in a future devlog.
