MADE IN 72 HOURS FOR LUDUM DARE 55

(We just uploaded a post-jam version. It has no new mechanics or content, but is better polished with new effects and UI and an intro sequence. If you want to rate Tristram for ludum dare, be sure to download "Tristram Jam Submission".)

Did you ever wonder how the mayor of Tristram might have felt?

Embark on a pixelated journey reminiscent of Diablo 1 in this thrilling 2D adventure!

Enter the catacombs beneath Tristram Cathedral by summoning brave heroes to face the dangers that lurk in the depths. Assemble your own party of heroes and fight to defeat evil and recover valuable treasures. Rebuild your once destroyed city with the gold from your adventures and upgrade buildings for ever more powerful equipment.

But beware, formidable horrors await in the shadows, challenging your mettle and rewarding your courage in this nostalgic homage to classic dungeon-crawling adventures.

Critical Bug Fixes:

  • fixed a bug where the ending scene would never trigger after beating the boss of the third level
  • fixed a bug where the expedition summary would get too large if having parties of 5, moving the close button out of screen and preventing progression

my village is huge

This was a BLAST! Absolutely fantastic and I hope to see more in the future!

Honestly one of the most tightly designed and engaging Ludum Dare games i've ever played, was really fun to play and i'd love if a actual larger game was made like this!

(+1)

Holy hell this is a great game! Seriously, I'd back this in a heart beat! Hope to see more content added someday, or a full blown game.

(+1)

Fun little tribute to Diablo, really nice soundtrack and fun concept!

(+2)

Take my money!
I want a full game now!

(+1)

Ooooh, I think this is really fun! If this was a longer or fuller version I definitely would play it, I like dungeon delving management kinds of games like this. No clue if that's the right term for it, though...

(+1)

great little game!
Been playing Diablo since the first one!

(+1)

Very Impressive,

I'm usually not a huge fan of these types of games but this was very fun!

Take my money

Damn what an awesome little gem, would totally buy an extended version with new dungeons, shops maybe even a stage selection for weaker squads and selecting fixed rosters assigned at the black board.
So much potential! Love it!

In web mode the music is lagging a lot for me.
Still had a great time!

(+1)

great game, please continue to develop or make it open source maybe? :)

(+2)
absolutely awesome game, please continue development and add more levels :) and on steam with it ;)
(+1)

It`s an amazing game, i would buy a steam version of it, if it had more levels

Amazing game!

Smol details on the navigator version tho:

- we can see the dialog popup appearing in the top left of the screen before anchoring to the speaker

- blowing the horn, people going in the water relaxing area and some combat vfx cause a 1 to 2 seconds slow of the game, I think it's a shader/gpu issue with the webexport, we had the same issue in our first godot webexport for a jam

(+1)

Ï would gladly pay few bucks for a regular game with a rogue-lite twist and few more dungeons. <3

Fantastic, would purchase an extended version on Steam in a heartbeat

pretty cool game but feels pretty short, and you cant interact with things a lot

(+1)

Wow amazing game i hope you can expand on it loved every minute well done

(+1)

(+3)

very fun game, I would pay for a full version!

(+2)

My favorite

I and my brother would buy it in steam anyways

(+2)

amazing in such a short time of development

(+3)

When this game will be on steam?

(+3)

Really amazing game!

Realy man? 72h? Wtf, this game is Amazing. Good ambience, completely acceptable graphics and an excellent concept for mechanics. I played the whole game and didn't even see the time pass. A polish here and a lengthen there and you will have an excellent complete game.

Is there a way to save your progress? Or no, cause every time I open the game it makes me start a new game?

(+2)

Awesome game, the concept is so solid

(+1)

Cleared it year 7.  Pretty surprised you can clear it this early.  Absolutely fantastic game.  Hope you can rework it to avoid copyright issues and sell it completely worked out.  Great little sneak peak of 3 dungeons.

(+2)

Loved that little game.

Reached Year 80, leveled the whole town to S tier (30 or so hearoes),  Made 19k for myself, Tritram is a very prosperous town now :D.

It was really hard to level new heroes , because the usual party members would jump in to farm diablo for gold... some had close to 10k gold in pockets :D

really enjoyed the game, especially the heroes that visited the graveyard, really touching.

This was super fun! Or engaging at least. Poor things.

First off, fuck you. I actually feel sad about loosing my units. All the bits and pieces of the village making it feel alive like the pool, the large house, the table, the units chatting with each other makes me feel almost connected to them. At the end of the game I pretty much knew all my units by name, who to put together with who and so on. I also really liked how different the classes were, with the knights only regaining motivation upon actually passing a fight, the AOE fireball throwers, and the fucking idiots that were the valkyries. Note the were. None of the them survived. On that note, the graveyard was fantastic move.

I think the group management is a bit too punishing. I think the 3 "moves" is good, but the swapping is a too random. I'd like to be able to manage my teams a bit more (on the level of selecting who to switch with), but I think the limit of times you can do it is great. You shouldn't have too much control. Also never used the kick function, don't see why you would ever use it either.

Another thing I really liked is the bouncyness of the pixelart. I'm very much a purist when it comes to pixelart. I want it to be pixel perfect. That said, I think you did a fantastic job making "modern" pixelart look good. The bounciness is as said fantastic, the juice is good and overall it's really appealing. Also banger music.

Also the demons with the whips were very hot. I would definitely end up as one of the gravestones if I was one of the heroes.

Congrats on submitting!

It was so good and for what, I need more!!!

(+4)

overall not bad of a game but could use more things to do

like pouring drinks

maybe hiring people

taking requests for items from traveling merchants

like a hero will ask you to keep an eye out for the ring of death or something and when you fullfil the request they will gift you huge sums of cash from time to time

(+4)

3 things id love to see in this game

1. whole team retreat [this would be useful to save a team or even a member]

2.personal sponser [aka the ability to gift cash to people you sponser]

3.tactics and risk and reward systems

idea is to be able to mod how the ai acts

example do you want them to favor defence of allys over their self but your defence n risk higher this will slow their attack system down but allow them to guard their allys more at risk of tanking damage

alt maybe you want them to be selfish lower their risk and raise their defence this will make them run when they hit 25%hp and will also make them try taking no agro

To be completely honest, I think a team retreat would be great for the player, but terrible for the game. For me a lot of the appeal with the game is the tension when you send out your beloved villagers. If you can instantly recall them at any time, that tension would disappear completely. Seeing one of your units have low health but high morale, and slowly getting chopped to death is absolutely horrible, but the game becomes so much better thanks to it.

Personal sponsor is a pretty good idea, and I'd love to see more management of the village itself. Maybe putting heroes behind the counter of the shops could be cool?

(+2)

Lots of potential in this game.  I look forward to seeing what comes of it.

Also, how does a win by Year 11 shape up to most other players?

Fun little game, I had a ball.
